The Action utility node triggers the required Workflow Studio workflows used in the Virtual Agent conversation.\n\n## Before you begin\n\nIf you don't already have a Virtual Agent topic, create one. For more information, see [Creating a Virtual Agent topic](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/conversational-interfaces/virtual-agent/create-virtual-agent-topic.md).\n\nBecome familiar with the following features:\n\n- Workflow Studio concepts and tasks. For more information, see [Workflow Studio](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/build-workflows/workflow-studio.md).\n- Assistant Designer Asset library utilities, such as the Lookup utility, and the Script Action utility.\n\n Use these utilities to control the actions within the Virtual Agent conversation. For more information about these utilities, see [Assistant Designer utilities](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/conversational-interfaces/virtual-agent/va-utilities.md).\n\n- Virtual Agent controls. You may be asked to enter any of the following:\n\n - Text strings\n - Data pills\n - Strings with embedded data pills\n - Scripts that return strings\n For more information, see [Assistant Designer controls](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/conversational-interfaces/virtual-agent/virtual-agent-controls.md).\n\n\n**Note:** If you have turned on and set up ServiceNow Otto in Virtual Agent, you can work with conversational actions and subflows from the Assistant Designer Asset library. For more information on conversational actions and subflows, see [Conversational actions](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/build-workflows/conversational-actions.md) and [Conversational subflows](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/build-workflows/conversational-subflows.md). You can still integrate actions and subflows that are not conversational from Workflow Studio into Virtual Agent topics via Assistant Designer Asset library. The following content is only relevant to actions or subflows that can't be made conversational in Workflow Studio.\n\nRole required: virtual\\_agent\\_admin or admin\n\n## Procedure\n\n1. Navigate to **All** &gt; **Conversational Interfaces** &gt; **Assistant Designer**.\n\n2. Select the **Asset library** tab.\n\n3. From the Utilities section of the palette, drag the Action utility icon \\[Omitted image \"action-icon.png\"\\] Alt text: onto the canvas at the appropriate location on the conversation flow.\n\n The Action utility is now a node in the conversation flow, and the Action utility properties panel appears.\n\n4. On the properties sheet, fill in the fields.\n\n<table id=\"action-utility-properties-sheet-table\"><thead><tr><th>\n\nProperty\n\n</th><th>\n\nDescription\n\n</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>\n\nNode name\n\n</td><td>\n\nThe name of this Action node.\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nInvoke Workflow Studio asset\n\n</td><td>\n\nSelect one of the following Workflow Studio components:\n\n- **Action**: A reusable operation.\n- **Subflow**: An automated process that consists of a sequence of reusable actions, data inputs, and outputs.\n\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nSpoke\n\n</td><td>\n\nName of the scoped application that contains Workflow Studio content that is dedicated to a particular application or record type.\n\n For a list of default spokes, see [Spokes](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/build-workflows/spokes.md).\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nAction/Subflow\n\n</td><td>\n\nThe Workflow Studio action or subflow to be performed in the instance. The contents of this area change according to the action that you selected. Options may include string input, referenced records, scripts, and so on. For options that require a password, enable the **Include a password input** toggle switch to prompt the user for a password. Secure inputs must use the password2 data type. Input is securely masked and not viewable by others.\n\n **Note:** The **Array.Reference** input data type in Virtual Agent Designer corresponds to the **List.\\[Table\\]** input data type in Workflow Studio. For more information, see [Action input and output data types](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/build-workflows/action-inputs-outputs.md).\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nOutput mapping\n\n</td><td>\n\nSpecifies the variables to be output by the selected action.
