{"revision":"c10276e953456835cdbb1f3a60d58ae1980be353","document":{"id":28597,"path":"it-operations-management/agent-client-collector/acc-categorize-discovered-software.md","title":"Categorize discovered software","bundle":null,"doc_type":null,"release":"australia","body":"\n# Categorize discovered software\n\nGroup discovered installed software packages in your environment by business relevance.\n\n## Before you begin\n\nIn the System Properties, verify that the software categorization system property is set to true: `sn_acc_vis_content.sw_categorization.enabled=true`.\n\nRole required: discovery\\_admin\n\n## About this task\n\nSoftware categorization classifies discovered software packages into categories, such as AI tools, security software, communication software, or a publisher-based category. Use this procedure to define a category and a signature that matches discovered software to that category.\n\n## Procedure\n\n1.  Create a category.\n\n    1.  Navigate to **All** &gt; **System Definition** &gt; **Tables**.\n\n    2.  Open the **Entity Categories** \\(sn\\_acc\\_vis\\_content\\_entity\\_category\\) table.\n\n    3.  Under related links, select **Show List**.\n\n    4.  Select **New**.\n\n    5. Select **Submit**.\n\n    7.  View the saved categories in the **Entity Categories** table.\n\n        **Note:** You can activate saved categories from this table by setting Active=true for the relevant categories.\n\n2.  Create a signature.\n\n    The signature is a rule that matches software to a category based on the software name or publisher.\n\n    1.  Navigate to **All** &gt; **System Definition** &gt; **Tables**.\n\n    2.  Open the **Installed Software Signature** \\(sn\\_acc\\_vis\\_content\\_sw\\_install\\_signature\\) table.\n\n    3.  Under related links, select **Show List**.\n\n    4.  Select **New**.\n\n    5.  On the form, fill in the fields.\n\n        Define the match condition using the software name, publisher, or both. Defining either Publisher or Software name is required.\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nVersion condition\n\n</td><td>\n\nMatching condition for the version. Options are: Any version, Exact match, Starts with, Ends with, Contains, Less than, Greater than, Not empty, and Empty.\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nVersion\n\n</td><td>\n\nPattern to match against the version.**Note:** If you don't specify a version, the signature matches any version.\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nDescription\n\n</td><td>\n\nBrief description of the signature.\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nActive\n\n</td><td>\n\nWhen selected, activates the signature.\n\n</td></tr></tbody>\n</table>    6.  Select **Submit**.\n\n    Submitting the signature triggers evaluation of the installed software against it and categorization of any matches.\n\n\n## Result\n\nThe categorized software appears in the **Installed Software Catalogs** \\(sn\\_acc\\_vis\\_content\\_sw\\_install\\_catalog\\) table. Each entry in the table shows the software package, its assigned category, and the signature that matched. For each record, either the **Software package** or the **SAM discovery model** column is populated, depending on whether SAM is installed on the instance.
