For more information, see [Attach a process for Change model states](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/it-service-management/change-management/attach-process-change-model.md).'\n\n## Change type progression\n\nEach change type progresses through the same states in a different sequence:\n\n-   Normal changes progress through all states: **New**, **Assess**, **Authorize**,**Scheduled**, **Implement**, **Review**, and **Closed**.\n-   Standard changes are pre-authorized, so they bypass the **Assess** and **Authorize** states and move from New to Scheduled.\n-   Emergency changes bypass the **Assess** state but still require the **Authorize** state before scheduling.\n\nFor the state values and descriptions, see [Legacy: State model and transitions](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/it-service-management/change-management/c_ChangeStateModel.md)\n\n## State transition triggers\n\nA change request moves between states based on defined conditions, user actions, and approval outcomes and not on elapsed time. A change manager attaches a process with the change model states using Workflow Studio or business rules. When the conditions for a state are met, the change request progresses to the next state. For example, when a required approval is granted, or a user submits the change. For more information on configuration details, see [Attach a process for Change model states](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/it-service-management/change-management/attach-process-change-model.md).\n\n<table id=\"table_bls_cnj_11b\"><thead><tr><th>\n\n \n\n</th><th>\n\nState\n\n</th><th>\n\nCan be canceled?\n\n</th><th>\n\nDiagram\n\n</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>\n\n1.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**New**\n\n</td><td>\n\nYes\n\n</td><td rowspan=\"7\" align=\"center\">\n\n\\[Omitted image \"NormalChangeStateModel2.png\"\\] Alt text: Normal change state model\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n2.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Assess**\n\n</td><td>\n\nYes\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n3.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Authorize**\n\n</td><td>\n\nYes\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n4.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Scheduled**\n\n</td><td>\n\nYes\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n5.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Implement**\n\n</td><td>\n\nYes\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n6.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Review**\n\n</td><td>\n\nNo\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n7.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Closed**\n\n</td><td>\n\nNo\n\n</td></tr></tbody>\n</table><table id=\"table_zfv_rfl_b1b\"><thead><tr><th>\n\n \n\n</th><th>\n\nState\n\n</th><th>\n\nCan be canceled?\n\n</th><th>\n\nDiagram\n\n</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>\n\n1.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**New**\n\n</td><td>\n\nYes\n\n</td><td rowspan=\"5\" align=\"center\">\n\n\\[Omitted image \"StandardChangeStateModel2.png\"\\] Alt text: Standard change state model\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n2.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Scheduled**\n\n</td><td>\n\nYes\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n3.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Implement**\n\n</td><td>\n\nYes\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n4.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Review**\n\n</td><td>\n\nNo\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n5.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Closed**\n\n</td><td>\n\nNo\n\n</td></tr></tbody>\n</table><table id=\"table_imz_sgl_b1b\"><thead><tr><th>\n\n \n\n</th><th>\n\nState\n\n</th><th>\n\nCan be canceled?\n\n</th><th>\n\nDiagram\n\n</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>\n\n1.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**New**\n\n</td><td>\n\nYes\n\n</td><td rowspan=\"6\" align=\"center\">\n\n\\[Omitted image \"EmergencyChangeStateModel2.png\"\\] Alt text: Emergency change state model\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n2.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Authorize**\n\n</td><td>\n\nYes\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n3.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Scheduled**\n\n</td><td>\n\nYes\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n4.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Implement**\n\n</td><td>\n\nYes\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n5.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Review**\n\n</td><td>\n\nNo\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\n6.\n\n</td><td>\n\n**Closed**\n\n</td><td>\n\nNo\n\n</td></tr></tbody>\n</table>**Parent Topic:**[Exploring Change Management](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/it-service-management/change-management/exploring-change-management.md)\n\n"}}
