{"revision":"c10276e953456835cdbb1f3a60d58ae1980be353","document":{"id":32765,"path":"it-service-management/expense-line/t_CreateAnAllocationRule.md","title":"Create an allocation rule","bundle":null,"doc_type":null,"release":"australia","body":"\n# Create an allocation rule\n\nExpense allocation rules enable you to associate expenses with an item, such as a user, group, or department.\n\n## Before you begin\n\nTo use expense allocation rules, activate [Cost Management](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/it-business-management/r_CostManagement.md).\n\nRole required: admin, financial\\_mgmt\\_admin, or financial\\_mgmt\\_user\n\n## About this task\n\n**Note:** Expense Allocations are generated through the out-of-the-box scheduled job, Process Expense Allocation.\n\n## Procedure\n\n1.  Navigate to **All** > **Cost** > **Administration** > **Expense Allocation Rules**.\n\n2.  Click **New**.\n\n3.  Complete the form.\n\n    |Field|Description|\n    |-----|-----------|\n    |Name|The allocation rule name.|\n    |Table|The table to which the allocation rule is associated.|\n    |Allocation field|The field on the table to populate with the expense allocation.|\n    |Inherited|Check box that indicates whether the expense allocation is inherited.|\n    |Active|Check box that indicates whether the expense allocation is available to use.|\n    |Percentage|The percentage of the expense line allocated to the table and field combination. Not available if the **Advanced** check box is selected.|\n    |Summary type|The expense allocation category: **Grow Business**, **Run Business**, or **Transform Business**. Categorizing expense allocations can be useful for reporting.|\n    |Condition|The condition under which the expense allocation is applied. Not available if the **Advanced** check box is selected.|\n    |Advanced|Check box that indicates whether to display the **Script** field.|\n    |Script|The script field that determines expense allocations. This field is only available if the **Advanced** check box is selected.|\n\n4.
